Beginning today, Simi Valley veterans can ride for free to their medical appointments in Los Angeles in a new van.
The 14-seat van was purchased after members of the Simi Valley chapter of Disabled American Veterans persuaded the city of Simi Valley and the National Disabled American Veterans Department to donate $18,000 to buy the van.
The free van service is available to veterans living in Simi Valley. The van will arrive at 8 a.m. each weekday at the Simi Valley Senior Citizens Center at 3900 Avenida Simi, take passengers to the Veterans Medical Center in North Hills and then drive them home.
Veterans interested in arranging for a ride should call the Senior Center at 526-9237 at least three days in advance to reserve a space.
