Presidential Criticism

August 08, 1994

No matter who's President, let him (or, eventually, her) snap back at media exaggeration, error or incompetence, and someone will accuse him of "whining."

As a longtime newspaper reporter, I often winced when officials in high places failed to react to bad journalism aimed at them. The media need constant criticism--from every possible source. As the fourth branch of government, they need every bit as much critical attention as Congress. Whine on, Mr. President, whoever you are!
