Topics / ATTRACTIONS : Huntington Gardens Increases Donation Fee

August 11, 1994|TALLY GOLDSTEIN | TIMES STAFF WRITER

The suggested donation for general admission to the Huntington Library and Gardens has been increased by $2.50.

A decrease in interest from bonds, which help fund Huntington's $12-million budget, has forced officials to rely more heavily on the suggested donations, according to Catherine Babcock, Huntington's communication director.

About 500,000 tourists annually visit the 75-year-old botanical garden, art collection and scholarly library.

As of July 12, the donation asked for general admission has been raised to $7.50 apiece, up from $5.

Senior citizens 65 and older are asked to donate $6, up from $5, and youth ages 12 to 18 contribute $4, up from $3. Children under 12 are free.

Other sources of income are fund-raising activities, an in-house restaurant and a gift shop.

The library and gardens is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 1 to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. For more information: (818) 405-2100.
