LOS ANGELES : School Beautification Drive Gets Under Way

August 12, 1994

A school beautification campaign got under way in South-Central Los Angeles Thursday with the planting of trees and flowering plants and removal of graffiti at Carver Middle School.

A $10,000 grant from GTE to the Los Angeles Conservation Corps will provide the funding for planting and anti-graffiti and mural projects at five other schools in City Councilwoman Rita Walters' district.

"We are hoping that other corporations and organizations that hear about this program will join our effort to make a difference in the quality of lives of our children and our communities through similar grants to the Los Angeles Conservation Corps," Walters said.

Several dozen children participated in the kickoff project at the Carver campus in the 4400 block of South McKinley Avenue.
