Alienated Nation

August 14, 1994

In response to Raul E. Acosta's letter (July 17), about Dr. Eva Carrizales and the death of her infant patient ("By a Doctor's Hand," by Barry Siegel, June 12), I take issue with his statement, "As a Christian nation, it is our duty to uphold the idea that all life is sacred, and that we are to preserve it to the very last second."

First, who declared our nation to be a Christian one? What an insult to the citizens of this country who are of other religious persuasions.

And does the preservation of life to the very last second apply to those in the gas chamber or in the electric chair?
