LA HABRA : Housing Group to Aid First-Time Buyers

August 15, 1994|MIMI KO

La Habra Neighborhood Housing Services Inc. has $1 million and is eager to give it to at least 40 first-time home buyers who have low to moderate incomes.

The agency will assist first-time home buyers who otherwise could not afford a home, said Avelina Rosholt, the program's coordinator.

Home buyers are given low-interest loans of up to $32,000 to help make down payments, Rosholt said.

"My goal is to process 40 or more (loans) in the next 12 months," she said.

To qualify for a loan, first-time home buyers must buy a home in targeted neighborhoods in La Habra or Whittier, where Neighborhood Housing Services has built homes. Applicants also must make less than $70,560 in annual income.

A seminar on how to buy a home for the first time must be attended by applicants as well. Spanish translation is available.
