Orchestra Conductors Appointed

The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra has announced two appointments. Michael Krajewski was named the orchestra's first principal pops conductor. He has been music director and conductor of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. Eugene F. Castillo, a conducting assistant, was named assistant conductor.

The Long Beach Symphony Assn. has selected new officers: Susan Weir of Ranchos Palos Verdes is president; Jim Olson of Rolling Hills Estates, Agnes Mulhearn of Long Beach and Robert Stemler of Newport Beach are vice presidents; Sonja Seaver of Long Beach is secretary, and Robert Schack of Huntington Beach will be treasurer.

Leo J. Vander Lans has been elected president of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners. A retired attorney, Vander Lans has been active in Long Beach community affairs since 1957.

Long Beach City College has named Kamiran Badrkhan vice president of academic affairs and Stanley Francus vice president of planning and governmental relations. Badrkhan joined the college in 1986. Francus joined the college in 1969 and has held various positions, including dean of academic affairs.

Sandra L. Gibson, executive director of the Public Corp. for the Arts in Long Beach, was named to the board of directors of the National Assembly of Local Arts Agencies. The national group represents the city and county arts councils, which administer more than $650 million in public arts appropriations.

Downey resident Joseph E. Di Loreto recently received a University of Portland Distinguished Alumnus Award. Di Loreto, a 1963 graduate, is an attorney specializing in personal injury litigation.

Screenwriter David Twohy, whose credits include "The Fugitive," has received a Cal State Long Beach Distinguished Alumni Award. Twohy, a 1978 graduate in radio and television, is a Long Beach native.

Mary-Margaret Stein of Long Beach was elected president of the Long Beach branch of the American Assn. of University Women. Stein is a property manager and administrative director of Leadership Long Beach.
