Workshop Offers Help for Seniors, Disabled on Renewing Green Cards

August 28, 1994

A workshop on renewing green cards will be held Thursday at the Angelus Plaza Senior Activity Center.

Staff from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and Angelus Plaza will be available from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. to review the application process with senior citizens, age 62 and up, and the disabled, said Julie Yang, information and referral coordinator for Angelus Plaza.

Anyone interested in attending should bring two photos and a $75 check for the application fee made out to the INS.

The workshop is being offered for the first time because of a recent change in INS policy, which requires immigrants who received their California permanent resident cards before 1978 to apply for new ones by Sept. 30, Yang said.

Cardholders will then have to pay a $70 renewal fee every 10 years.

Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Spanish translators will be available to assist applicants, Yang said.

The workshop will be held in the fourth-floor auditorium at Angelus Plaza, 255 S. Hill St.

There is no charge for the workshop.

Information: (213) 623-4948, Ext. 307.
