Nation IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : FBI Probing Firm Over Medical Billing

August 28, 1994|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The FBI is investigating several Atlanta doctors tied to a home health care company that has been accused of inflating the medical bills of critically ill patients, including AIDS patients. An article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted FBI officials as confirming the existence of the probe amid publicity over a civil lawsuit that charges Caremark International Inc., two Atlanta doctors and a local pharmacy with charging "unconscionable" sums for their services. The suit was filed last April by Michael Alan Booth, who entered the care of two Atlanta AIDS specialists after being diagnosed with the disease.
