The state Department of Labor and Industries in Washington gave King County the go-ahead to resume ceiling repairs inside the Kingdome.

All repair work had been halted since Aug. 17, when two workers died in the collapse of a construction crane inside the stadium. The Kingdome has been closed since July 19, when four acoustical ceiling tiles fell into empty stands before a scheduled Mariner game.

Bruce Baumgartner and Melvin Douglas of the United States advanced to the semifinals of the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships at Istanbul, Turkey.

Willie Cauley, a Pittsburgh forward, was jailed for nearly two months in upstate New York this summer for criminal mischief and harassment, Big East Briefs magazine reported.
