SANTA ANA — City and county officials broke ground Wednesday for a new "barrier-free playground" designed to meet the needs of disabled children.
The playground at Thornton Park will include rubberized play surfaces suited for people in wheelchairs, as well as ramps and other innovations to permit disabled children to play on climbing equipment, swings and slides. The $600,000 renovation, paid by city, county and federal grants, is expected to be completed by mid-1995, said Ron Ono, design manager for the recreation and community services agency.
