K-III Communications Corp., the owner of Weekly Reader and Funk & Wagnalls' New Encyclopedia, said it completed its purchase of the Channel One commercial news show for schools and other assets from Whittle Communications. . . . General Motors Corp. resumed production and began shipping parts from a key factory complex as it tried to recover from a four-day strike that had threatened to stall GM operations nationwide.
