Driving Classes Could Help Seniors Qualify for Discounts

Driving classes for senior citizens who want to improve their driving skills and qualify for insurance discounts will be held throughout South County this month.

Aimed at helping seniors adjust to deteriorating reflexes and vision, the course is held over two days at many sites in South County.

Called "55 Alive," the program is sponsored by the American Assn. of Retired Persons, and participants must be at least age 50. Registration costs $8, and preregistration is required.

Upon completing the two-day course, seniors receive a certificate that can be sent to auto insurance companies for good driver discounts.

Those interested in signing up must contact the facility where the class is being held. Here's where classes in South County will be held:

* Monday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Clemente Community and Senior Citizen Center, 242 Avenida del Mar, in San Clemente. For more information, call (714) 498-3322.
