THOUSAND OAKS : Arts Plaza Donations Surpass $6.4 Million

October 03, 1994|STEPHANIE SIMON

Nine major contributions last week raised the Civic Arts Plaza's endowment fund past the $6.4-million mark--and encouraged fund-raisers to predict they will reach their goal of raising $7 million by next month's grand opening.

"I said we were going to do this, and I never had any doubts," said chief fund-raiser Richard T. Johnson, director of the Alliance for the Arts. "But still, I am just absolutely amazed."

UCLA Chancellor Charles Young and his wife, Sue, contributed $50,000 to the endowment, which will subsidize daily operations of the two theaters, including performances by nonprofit community groups. The Youngs have lived in Lake Sherwood three years.

Others contributing $50,000 were Joe and Pat Paulucci, who own PTS Furniture in Thousand Oaks; Charter Pacific Bank of Agoura Hills; John and Sandra Moyen, who own the Jewellery Connection in Westlake Village; George and Judy Fritkin, who own BAT Electronics in Westlake Village; Ken and Di Kaplan of Westlake Village; Curt and Gerry Pindler of Pindler & Pindler in Moorpark; Bernard and Susan Wickman, managers of Reeds & Son Furniture in Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills, and Jack and Terre Bergman of Agoura.
