RACING ROUNDUP : Arc de Triomphe Won by Carnegie

Carnegie won the Arc de Triomphe by a head at Longchamp near Paris on Sunday, giving trainer Andre Fabre his third victory in continental Europe's most prestigious race.

Carnegie, ridden by Thierry Jarnet, took the lead in the final quarter-mile as the field overtook early leader Broadway Flyer.

Second was Hernando, ridden by Cash Asmussen. Third was Apple Tree, followed by Ezzoud and Bright Moon. Favored White Muzzle, second in the race last year, finished sixth.

The winner covered 1 1/2 miles in 2:30, earning $755,000 from a purse of $1.1 million.

Carnegie, owned by Sheik Mohammed El Maktoum, scored his fourth consecutive victory. Three weeks ago, he won the Prix Niel.

Lottsa Talc beat Lilly's Moment by 2 3/4 lengths in the $50,000 Schenectady Handicap for New York-bred fillies and mares at Belmont Park.

Lottsa Talc, ridden by Frank Alvarado, covered six furlongs in 1:10 and paid $23.00, $7.80 and $5.40. The Tim Kelly-trained filly, a 4-year-old daughter of Talc, earned $34,350 for owners Vincent McGuire, Konrad Eggart and Charles Werner with her third victory in eight starts.

Lilly's Moment returned $4 and $3.40 and Tensie's Pro paid $3.40.

Longshot Parts Unknown beat Whata Mind by a neck in the $113,850 Illinois Breeders' Debutante for state-bred 2-year-old fillies at Arlington International Racecourse.

Parts Unknown covered a mile in 1:40 3/5 and paid $50.20, $13.80 and $7.80. Parts Unknown's only victory in four previous starts came in a maiden race in June.

Whata Mind returned $3.40 and $3.00 and Adarec paid $3.80.

Jockey Coleen Bernat, 27, was hospitalized in serious condition for unspecified injuries after her mount jumped the rail and fell at Charles Town (W. Va.) Races. Bernat was riding in the ninth race when her horse, Unclemikesbigboy, went over the rail early in the stretch run. The horse was unhurt.
