Crash Lawsuit

October 05, 1994

I thought there was some provision against frivolous lawsuits, but after reading "Parents of Suspected Vandals Who Died in Crash Sue State" (Sept. 24), I must be mistaken.

The idea that the parents of these graffiti vandals should be allowed to sue the state for $80 million is disgusting and wrong. Thank God, Christopher Hiddleson, a Department of Transportation lawyer handling the state's defense said, "That just doesn't seem right."

In yet another example of people refusing to accept responsibility for the actions of themselves or their families, these leeches, goaded on by a contingency fee-seeking attorney, attempt to remove money from the wallets of taxpayers.

Use our taxes for legitimate causes--education, transportation, public safety--but do not waste a dollar of our hard-earned money dignifying ridiculous, deceitful and frivolous lawsuits. Also, let all costs associated with dismissing these frivolities be borne by the plaintiff's lawyer.
