October 07, 1994|GREG RIPPEE

A Camarillo man suffered serious stab wounds and a 24-year-old man was arrested after a pre-dawn attack Thursday in Camarillo, sheriff's deputies said.

Gustavo Herrera, 22, was found sprawled on a sidewalk in a residential neighborhood on Raemere Street about 3:50 a.m., the victim of multiple stab wounds, deputies said.

He was taken to St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, where Administrator Jim Gintz said he was in serious condition in the intensive-care unit. He said Herrera suffered wounds to the head, neck, chest and arms.

Ricardo S. Meza, who was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, was being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, Sgt. Bruce Macedo said.

Deputies said they recovered what they believed to be the knife used in the attack. They said they found the weapon in Herrera's van, which was parked close to where he was found.
