Jackson's Runs Rescue Montclair Prep

October 07, 1994|BRYAN RODGERS | SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

AZUSA — Just when it appeared that Montclair Prep was down and out Thursday night, Siggy Jackson came to the rescue.

Montclair Prep's starting quarterback, Bobby Neumann, and its starting running back, Demetris Green, had been knocked out of the game with injuries. But Jackson responded with two fourth-quarter touchdown runs to rally the Mounties to a 20-7 nonleague victory over Gladstone at Citrus College.

Montclair Prep (4-1) trailed, 7-6, when Jackson, who rushed for 86 yards in 16 carries, capped a 67-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown with six minutes to play. He added another four-yard touchdown in the closing seconds.

Green had rushed for 158 yards in 15 carries until he injured his left knee late in the third quarter. Akil Anderson, the Mounties' other running back, did not play because of an injured knee. Neumann left with a concussion late in the first half.

With the exception of Anderson, the four Montclair Prep players suspended last week in connection with a hazing incident were reinstated and played.
