ANAHEIM : Driver Arrested After Chase Ends in Crash That Injures 3

October 12, 1994

A Placentia man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after his car collided with another, ending a chase by two California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said Tuesday.

Eden Dias Aguilera, 24, was arrested after his Datsun 280Z hit a 1991 Ford Escort driven by Sarah Elizabeth Cooper, 16, of Anaheim. Aguilera and Cooper were treated for minor injuries while Ruben Casales, a 19-year-old passenger in the Datsun, suffered a broken leg and wrist and internal injuries, said CHP Officer Angel Johnson.

Aguilera was heading west on the Riverside Freeway about 11 p.m. Monday when his car swerved to the left, almost hitting a CHP cruiser, Johnson said.

Johnson said that when the officers tried to pull him over, Aguilera sped up, at one point reaching 115 m.p.h. The driver exited the freeway at Euclid Avenue and headed south at about 60 m.p.h. At Euclid and La Palma avenues, Aguilera ran a red light and collided with Cooper's Escort, Johnson said.

Cooper was taken to Anaheim Memorial Hospital. Aguilera and Casales were treated at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Aguilera was booked Tuesday in the Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony drunk driving and attempting to evade a police officer.
