STUDIO CITY : Loud Party Held at House Before Settlement Is Signed

October 12, 1994

A raucous party was held Sunday at a Studio City mansion in violation of a settlement to restore restore quiet in the neighborhood, but it will have no effect on the agreement because it has not yet been signed, a Los Angeles city councilman's aide said Tuesday.

A Superior Court judge is expected to sign the agreement Oct. 17 between the city and Paul Campbell, owner of a $2.1-million, 7,100-square-foot house on Wrightwood Drive.

Last weekend, the mansion's residents held a party for more than 200 people. The settlement would limit events to 25 guests.

City traffic control officers and fire inspectors monitored the party because traffic clogged the street, said Lisa Zeni of Councilman Joel Wachs' staff.

Neighbors have been complaining for years about large, noisy celebrations at the mansion, some of which have been featured on MTV. Party-goers blocked driveways with their cars and littered the streets with bottles and cans, neighbors said.

The proposed settlement would bar parties without the proper permit and prohibit commercial activities, such as cover charges and the sale of alcohol.
