LOS ANGELES : Trial of Fleiss, Father on Tax Charges Set Jan. 24

October 15, 1994

A federal judge Friday set a Jan. 24 trial date for reputed Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and her father, who are accused of hiding income from the Internal Revenue Service.

Fleiss and her father, Dr. Paul Fleiss, are charged with depositing checks for prostitution services into the pediatrician's bank account and lying about income on tax returns.

U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall agreed to delay the start date from Dec. 6 because of the accused madam's upcoming trial on state pandering and drug charges. She is scheduled to appear Monday in Superior Court, but jury selection is not set to begin until Oct. 24.

Attorney Donald Marks asked for the postponement so he could have enough time to prepare for the federal trial. He told Marshall that the state trial should be over by the end of November.

Fleiss, 28, is undergoing treatment at a residential drug rehabilitation facility in Pasadena. She sobbed before the hearing and was consoled by her father.
