Brotherly, ridden by Eddie Garcia, defeated Refrigerator by a half-length to win the $100,000 Los Alamitos Championship Invitational on Friday night.

The Charles-Treece trained Brotherly raced 440 yards in 21.57 seconds and paid $10.20 as the second choice in the wagering.

The gelding, owned by the partnership of Barham, Shannon and Loeb, also earned a berth in the Champion of Champions, in which he might again face Refrigerator, on Dec. 17.

By finishing second, Refrigerator became quarter horse racing's first $2-million winner with earnings of $2,006,867.

The 6-year-old world champion, who won the past two runnings of the Los Alamitos Championship, bumped with Avison at the start of Friday night's race.

Seals finished third and Avison was fourth. Sound Dash finished fifth, followed by Sigs First Call.
