It's the game that East Los Angeles has been waiting for.

Not the annual Garfield-Roosevelt grudge match, but next week's showdown between Franklin and Wilson that will likely determine the Northern Conference champion.

Franklin fired the first shot with a 41-7 drubbing of Verdugo Hills Friday afternoon and the Mules retaliated with a 55-14 dismantling of Eagle Rock Friday night at Wilson.

The message is clear: Neither team is going to give an inch.

"I thought this game would be the acid test even though I am surprised at the score," Wilson coach Eddie Martinez said.

The Mules opened the game with an impressive seven-play, 3:12 drive that ended in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Eddie Gonzalez to Buster Bradley, giving Wilson a 7-0 lead.

Wilson never looked back, scoring 27 of the game's next 34 points.

Gonzalez, who threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns, accounted for four of Wilson's eight touchdowns.

Gonzalez scored twice in the second quarter on two-yard runs, the last of which boosted Wilson's lead to 28-0.

Running back Arlin Slayton had 10 carries for 44 yards and two touchdowns.

Eagle Rock's Trenell Young had 86 yards in 22 carries.

Records: Eagle Rock 4-2; Wilson 5-1

Next week: Franklin at Wilson.
