REGIONAL ROUNDUP

Micropolis to Cooperate With Matsushita on Project

October 18, 1994

Micropolis Corp., a Chatsworth-based maker of computer disk drives, said it has agreed to work with another company to develop an entertainment system that will allow airline passengers to select music or movies for immediate viewing or listening.

Micropolis said it will work on the project with Matsushita Avionics Development Corp., a unit of the electronics giant Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., which is based in Osaka, Japan.

The entertainment system, which will use disk drives designed by Micropolis, will enable airline passengers to select programming from menus displayed on flat screens mounted on each airplane seat. Micropolis said the system, which would be the first of its kind, is expected to be available in mid-1995.

Development work on the project will take place primarily at Matsushita's location in Irvine.
