GARDEN GROVE — Hilton D. Bell Intermediate School has received a $3,100 grant from a health organization supporting a campus program designed to reward outstanding students, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Unified School District said.

PacificCare Foundation provided the grant for the school's "Being Exceptional Learners and Leaders" program, which was created three years ago. The grant will enable the program to be extended another year, said district spokesman Alan Trudell.

The program is aimed at honoring students for academic achievement, identifying and assisting underachieving students, cultivating children's leadership ability and recognizing staff excellence, he said. The program also includes a daylong leadership conference each year for student leaders.
