Adalberto Sanchez

Capistrano Valley, Senior

After running his usual blistering first mile, Sanchez had no competition at the Orange County Championships Saturday at Irvine Regional Park. "I heard someone say he was in the 4:30s in the first mile, which is pretty scary for the other guys," Capistrano Valley Coach Gary Gross said. "A lot of people think he's being a maniac, but he's comfortable going out that fast." Sanchez finished the 3.1-mile course in 15:13 and won the race by 15 seconds. Sanchez, who won the Southern Section Division I-AA title last year, also ran 15:11 for three miles to help the Cougars to a dual-meet victory over San Clemente.
