Salsa to Play 19 Exhibitions Against Mexican First Division Teams

October 19, 1994

The Salsa announced Tuesday a 19-match series against soccer teams from the Mexican First Division, which will run through April, 1995.

The series begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Salsa plays host to Chivas of Guadalajara in Weingart Stadium at East Los Angeles College.

Most games will be played at Weingart with two--Nov. 30 against Tampico and Jan. 28 against Morella--scheduled for Titan Stadium in Fullerton.

The Salsa has been invited to participate in the First Division, but that plan remains on hold. This series will give the team a chance to compete against "some of the best players on the continent," according to Coach Rick Davis.

U.S. World Cup veteran Hugo Perez and Paulinho, named the American Professional Soccer League's most valuable player for the second consecutive year, will lead the Salsa.

Individual match tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 14. Season tickets for all 19 games are available before Oct. 29 for $169.
