Gardenhill Elementary School has received a prestigious Blue Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education.

The department presents the award yearly to schools that score high during reviews of their leadership, educational programs, community support and teaching environment. Gardenhill was one of four schools in Los Angeles County that received the award. A total 276 public and private schools nationwide received the award this year.

Gardenhill Principal Christine Reasin praised school programs that emphasize geography, international relations and democracies around the world.

Norwalk-La Mirada Unified officials went to Washington recently to accept the award and meet with President Clinton.
