BIG BEAR--German culture and revelry is the order of the day at the Big Bear Oktoberfest 1994. Festivities include German food and drink, music, and game and craft booths. Noon-6 p.m. today and Oct. 30; noon-midnight Oct. 29 at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. General admission: $7; kids 3-12 are $3 on Saturday, free on Sundays. (909) 866-4608.

BORREGO SPRINGS--"The Fabulous '50s" is the theme for the 29th annual Borrego Springs Desert Festival, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 28-30. Festival highlights include arts and crafts, games and live entertainment on Christmas Circle and the surrounding areas. A parade is at 11 a.m. Saturday; a street dance is at 7 p.m. Saturday. Free.
