Blowing Smoke at 35,000 Feet

October 23, 1994

Less smoke will be getting in your eyes on an increasing number of flights. On Oct. 30, British Airways will start one daily nonsmoking round trip between New York and London and the next day, United Airlines will add smoke-free flights between San Francisco and Sydney, Australia, and Hong Kong, and between New York's Kennedy Airport and London's Heathrow. Northwest Airlines will not allow smoking on its new Seattle-Hong Kong service, which begins Nov. 1, and Delta announced earlier that it will ban smoking on all transatlantic trips beginning next year.
