More Terra-Cotta Warriors in China

October 23, 1994

The last of three pits of terra-cotta warriors and horses near China's ancient capital of Xian has been opened to the public. The cave is believed to contain more than 1,400 pottery figures and chariots, including more than 100 warriors on horseback. Excavation began in March and is expected to continue for about five years, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The warriors were discovered 20 years ago by peasants who were sinking wells. Since then, about 26 million people have visited the excavation site.
