Orange County Almanac

October 27, 1994

It's not Manhattan, but Orange County holds its own when it comes to corporate power.

According to Fortune magazine, the county is home to four of the top companies on the Fortune 500 list.

Irvine appears to be the local center of corporate wealth: The city is home to three of the county's four top companies.

Figures reflect 1993 financial activity, in millions:

Fortune in Sales (Fortune 500 rank) Rockwell, Seal Beach (45): $10,840 AST Research, Irvine (287): $1,412 Western Digital, Irvine (318): $1, 225 Allergan, Irvine (384): $888

A debate on Measure A, the El Toro Airport Initiative, begins at 7 p.m. at the Irvine City Council chambers.

The forum, sponsored by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, will also be televised live on Dimension Cable Channel 3.

Supporters and opponents of a commercial airport at El Toro will participate in the forum. Irvine City Atty. Joel D. Kuperberg will describe the initiative and its potential impact on the city.
