DANA POINT : Rally Will Support Preserving Headlands

October 28, 1994|JEFF BEAN

A rally to support preservation of the Dana Point Headlands is scheduled for Saturday.

Sponsored by the Committee to Save the Headlands, the rally begins at noon at the Dana Strand parking area on Selva Road. It will include music, food and displays by artists and environmental groups. A ticket to the event costs $10.

Preservationists are against Measure C and Measure D, two local ballot initiatives that would allow a $500-million hotel and residential development on the 121-acre coastal site.

The City Council voted in April to approve the development, saying it was a worthy project that would generate much-needed revenue.

But opponents contend that the development is too extensive for one of the last major undeveloped coastal properties in the county. They circulated a petition and gathered enough signatures to force a citywide vote.

Rally ticket information: (714) 489-7163.
