Kennedy and Romney Score a Draw in Debate

October 28, 1994|Associated Press

HOLYOKE, Mass. — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) and GOP challenger Mitt Romney fielded questions about crime, welfare and congressional gridlock in a town meeting-style forum Thursday that provoked few heated exchanges.

Romney was clearly the underdog going into the debate after scoring a draw--at best--in his fiery first round against a rejuvenated Kennedy on Tuesday.

"They were pretty evenly matched," said Dale Herbeck, a communications professor at Boston College.
