Fullerton Candidate Clarifies Tax Stance

October 30, 1994

On Oct. 19, your newspaper inaccurately reported that I support a controversial utility tax in Fullerton. The following day, I was misquoted again when your paper related that I support that tax "unless it can be repealed without causing cuts in city services."

My position is and always has been to allow the tax to terminate as scheduled in September, 1995. To rescind the tax sooner would require the city to cut services commensurate with the revenue reduction or dip into reserves.

On Oct. 18, I was the runaway leader in a hotly contested election for Fullerton City Council. I must run again Nov. 8 to keep this seat. The utility tax issue could well make or break a candidate. Defeat by the careless slip of a reporter's pen would come hard indeed to me and the wonderful volunteers who have worked so hard on my campaign.
