BALTIMORE — More than 400 parents accused of falling behind on child-support payments were arrested Friday during a middle-of-the-night sweep across Maryland, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies began searching for the parents at midnight. The first 459 people arrested owed about $1.4 million, said Linda West, spokeswoman for the Department of Human Resources.
