The African American Cultural Center is sponsoring a free educational workshop on the Kwanza holiday on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, 2560 W. 54th St.

"Understanding and Celebrating Kwanza: A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture" will focus on the history and observance of the African American cultural holiday created by center founder Maulana Karenga in 1966.

The workshop will introduce ways to celebrate Kwanza in the home, schools, and other community facilities. It will discuss the meaning of the seven days of Kwanza, which is observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.
