Bravo is offering a selection of films by the late maverick independent filmmaker-actor John Cassavetes: Shadows (Monday at 8 p.m., Tuesday at midnight); The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (Tuesday at p.m., Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.); Opening Night (Wednesday at 8 p.m., Thursday at 9 a.m., Saturday at 8 p.m.); Faces ( Thursday at 8 p.m.) and A Woman Under the Influence (Friday at 8 p.m., Sturday a 9:30 a.m.)

Close to Eden (Cinemax Thursday at 2 p.m.) is Nikita Mikhalkov's beautiful 1991 allegory in which a Russian truck driver comes across a Mongol family in China's interior living an idyllic, albeit endangered existence.
