In the Orange Empire Conference water polo championships:

Orange Coast takes second--James Giulianotti scored five goals to lead Grossmont past Orange Coast, 15-7, Saturday in the Orange Empire Conference water polo championships. Grossmont jumped to an 8-3 halftime lead that the Pirates were unable to overcome.

Giulianotti's brother, John, added four goals for Grossmont. Shad Wicker led Orange Coast with three goals as the Pirates finished in second place.

Rancho Santiago took third place with an 8-4 victory over Saddleback. The Dons scored six second-half goals for the victory.

John Gniffke scored three goals for Rancho Santiago and teammate Jay Rosales added two.

In other games:

Cypress 11, Palomar 9--Mustafa Hassan had four goals and Kevin Hearn had two for Cypress in the consolation game. In an earlier game, Cypress was defeated by San Diego Mesa, 13-8.

In the final of the South Coast tournament:

Golden West 11, Long Beach 6--Matt Braun scored four goals and John Chomin added three as Golden West, ranked second in the state, beat No. 1 Long Beach.

Jason Stanton had 14 saves for Golden West (25-2). Long Beach is 18-4-1.
