VENTURA COUNTY NEWSWATCH

November 11, 1994|Adrianne Goodman

BANKING SQUEEZE: By April, the familiar Bank of A. Levy signs around Ventura County will be gone, victims of the bank's consolidation with First Interstate Bank over the summer. . . . Bank of A. Levy offices at 13 locations will begin operating under the First Interstate name, while three other offices will merge with existing First Interstate branches. Banking officials said the move will help them better serve customers in the same geographical areas of the two financial institutions. . . . The plan will lead to layoffs, but the exact number will not be known until after April.

FAMILY AFFAIR: His stepmother is Ventura County Supervisor Maggie Kildee, but that doesn't mean that Kevin Kildee--just elected to Camarillo's park district board--has aspirations for higher office. . . . Kildee, 38, said he's a lifelong user of the city's parks and has wanted to serve on the park district board for years. "The time seemed right" to run, Kildee said. Plus, his father served on the agency's first board in the early 1960s. "I'm excited," Kildee said. "You're right with the people. It's real grass-roots."

WELL-WISHERS: Wearing her trademark cheerful red, Nancy Reagan reassured fans that her husband is doing fine since disclosing that he has Alzheimer's disease (B4). . . . In fact, the Reagans are feeling pretty good about Republican gains in the elections, said the former First Lady, who was at the Reagan Presidential Library to sign copies of her autobiography. . . . Meanwhile, researchers hope that a new test using a drug that detects cataracts will speed detection of Alzheimer's (A24).

MUSKETEERS UNITED: They could just as easily have become rivals, but Moorpark High School football teammates Tyler Dritz and Bryan Paul are helping the Musketeers in their quest for a championship season (C16). . . . Dritz, a senior, started as quarterback until an arm injury forced him to move to wide receiver. Then Paul, a junior, took over as quarterback. So far, so good: The Musketeers are off to a 7-2 start.
