Iijima, Mission Win State Golf Titles

Kumiko Iijima shot a four-over-par 76 and led Mission College to the first junior college women's golf state championship Monday at Menefee Lakes Country Club in Temecula.

Iijima won the individual title on the 5,400-yard course. The other team members at the championships were Mikel Alpert, Creela Harris, Jill Burton-Jones and Layne Burr. Another member, Cathy Gallegos-Kehoe, did not play.

The Free Spirit shot 372 in the four-team, 18-hole event. Desert finished second at 398 and Mt. San Antonio third at 417. Rio Hondo was disqualified because one of its five players did not complete the course.
