Casillas placed 11th in the District VIII regional in Tucson on Saturday to help the Wildcats to victory.

Sylmar outside hitter Marya Ariza was named the player of the year in the East Valley League for the second straight season. Ariza, a 5-foot-4 senior, led the Spartans to the league title and the City Section 3-A final.

Former Santa Clara High and UCLA guard Shon Tarver was one of four players waived by the Chicago Rockers of the Continental Basketball Assn.
