L.A. Baptist's Season Lacks Only That Perfect Ending : Volleyball: Knights put 19-0 record on the line in Southern Section Division V final against Brentwood.

From the beginning of the season, L.A. Baptist High Coach Sue Newcomb expected her girls' volleyball team to make the Southern Section Division V final.

She didn't expect the Knights to have an undefeated season.

Now, second-seeded L.A. Baptist (19-0) will face by far its toughest test of the season against Brentwood at 1 p.m. today at Cypress College.

Top-seeded Brentwood (17-1) is defending Division V state champion and played a demanding schedule against several higher-division powers, including and Calvary Chapel, top-seeded in Division IV, and Harvard-Westlake. Brentwood's only loss was to La Mirada early in the season.

Outside hitters Kelly Gentile and Katherine Kuchenbecker, middle blocker Erin Hawkins and setter Sarah Neal lead the Eagles.

Outside hitter Darcie Frazier has 94 kills over 14 games in four playoff matches for L.A. Baptist, many on passes from setter Tundo Hrotko.
