Distance Learning May Pay Dividends

November 20, 1994

I found your article "A New College Course" (Nov. 8) on expansion of college education through distance learning interesting and informative. It is true that distance learning is likely to become a factor in education at all levels.

Unlike business and industry, education has not changed with the development of new tools and technologies. One reason for this may well be that education has been unchallenged by marketplace forces such as cost, competition and quality control.

Now these factors are present . . . to bring about radical change to the education establishment.

Education may become a new source of revenue for technically sophisticated corporations who possess the capital and intellectual resources to challenge the monopoly the traditional public and private schools have enjoyed. Now we change or others will engage our clientele!
