Banning 7, Fremont 6--Drone Owens of Fremont scored on a four-yard run with 1:54 left, but Banning's Eric Whitfield broke up the two-point conversion pass to preserve the Pilot victory in the City 4-A first-round payoff game at Fremont.

Whitfield, a cornerback, also intercepted a pass in the end zone with five minutes to play to end another Pathfinder scoring threat.

Robert Loera completed seven of 20 pass for 126 yards and Michael Adams had three receptions for 48 yards for Fremont.

On the deciding play, Loera took the snap and threw toward Adams in the end zone, but Whitfield dove in front of Adams and knocked the ball down.

Banning's Eric Lewis ran for 133 yards and a touchdown.
