Perry is downplaying his team's chances of winning the league championship, but the other Garden Grove coaches aren't and are picking La Quinta as the favorite. "We're not as big and athletic as Rancho Alamitos or Pacifica or as big as Garden Grove," Perry said. "If our kids do anything, they have a great work ethic and they believe very deeply in the system." Garden Grove coaches like La Quinta because the Aztecs return four starters and have transfers Johnson and Brower, Perry's first transfers since 1986. Johnson didn't want to play behind Los Alamitos' Ali Ton, one of the county's premier point guards, so he took his quickness and his outside shooting to La Quinta. Brower has never played varsity basketball, but Perry likes his defensive toughness and his unselfishness. The top returning starter is two-year starter and three-year letterman Greenfield, who averaged 15 points, three assists and four rebounds last season.
