RIVERSIDE — Dedrick Gobert, an actor in the movie "Boyz N the Hood," was one of two men shot to death in a fight over a weekend drag-race, authorities said Monday.
Gobert, 22, of Inglewood, and Ignacio Hernandez, 19, of Rosemead, were killed early Saturday on an isolated road in the Mira Loma area north of here, said a spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized with a gunshot wound in the neck.
Gobert was in the supporting cast of writer-director John Singleton's "Boyz N the Hood," released in 1991. Gobert's other credits included the 1993 movie "Poetic Justice," starring Janet Jackson, and "Higher Learning," which is scheduled for release in January, according to Singleton's New Deal Productions.
Deputies responding to a 2:20 a.m. shooting report found Gobert and Hernandez dead in the roadway on Etiwanda Avenue.
Lohman said about 40 people had gathered for illegal drag-races, and a race between Gobert and another man led to an argument. Hernandez was attacked when he tried to help Gobert, Lohman said.
Investigators were looking for a man believed to have fled in a 1993 or 1994 Honda Prelude.
