GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Troy Beats Century for Title, Despite Off Night for Gadd

Century held Troy's leading scorer, Jennie Gadd, to 12 points, but other players picked up the slack and the Warriors defeated Century, 51-43, in the championship game of the Century girls' basketball tournament Friday.

Gadd entered the game averaging 23 points. Heidi Hardeman scored 10 points and Dinah Shah and Janea Butler each scored eight for Troy (3-0).

Rosa Palacios led Century (2-1) with 10 points. The Centurions made only eight of 20 free throws.

In the third-place game:

Santa Ana 50, Orange 34--TanzenikaHolmes and Letty Gil each scored 21 for Santa Ana (2-1).

In a consolation game:

Capistrano Valley Christian 57, Sunny Hills 55--Olivia Lindsay made a shot at the buzzer for Capistrano Valley Christian (1-2). Lindsay finished with 11 points. Teammate Jessica Olivier scored 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Eagles overcame a 45-point performance by Sunny Hills' Randi Kameoka, a school record.

Kameoka made five three-pointers and was eight of eight from the free-throw line.

In the Fullerton tournament:

Fullerton 49, Katella 43--Nadia Hoerner scored 14 points and Jennie Wallace added 10 as Fullerton moved into the title game at 5:15 p.m. today against Newport Harbor.

Lynn Kaneshiro scored 10 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for Katella.

Newport Harbor 79, Rosary 67--Andree Verhulst scored a game-high 26 points for Newport Harbor (2-0). Jenny Jennings added 14 points and nine rebounds and Mandy Clayton scored 11 points and eight rebounds.

Kennedy 63, Whittier La Serna 54--Erryn Gutjahr scored 19 points and Noelani Westall added 13 for Kennedy (1-1) in the consolation game.

In the Irvine tournament:

Irvine 41, La Mirada 37--Shawnee Stevens led Irvine (2-0) with 20 points. Jenna Bodholdt added nine points and 15 rebounds. Irvine will play Orange Lutheran in the championship game at 7:30 tonight.

Saddleback 35, Foothill 24--Nicole Wyora scored 16 points for Saddleback (1-1) in a consolation game.

Anaheim 46, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 31--Stephanie Durrett scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Anaheim (1-2). Teammate Charisse Correa added 14 points.

In the Carson City (Nev.) Tournament:

Marina 60, Wooster (Nev.) 54--Sonya Bryant scored 17 points and Kirsten Cappel added 14 and 10 rebounds for Marina (2-0) in a semifinal.

In the Etiwanda tournament:

Brea-Olinda 65, Victor Valley 29--Dawn Metz scored 21 points and Marissa Bradley added 15 for Brea-Olinda (3-0), which advanced to the final to play the winner of Lynwood and Mission Viejo.
