DEAR WALDA: Here's the recipe from Stuart Anderson's Black Angus restaurant executive chef David R. Ford. It's a wonderful bread to serve with chili or pasta, or even by itself, cut into small pieces, as an appetizer.
BLACK ANGUS GARLIC- CHEESE BREAD
1 loaf French bread
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup shredded Asiago cheese
1 cup shredded Jack cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 bunch green onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, pureed
Split French bread loaf into halves horizontally. In bowl mix butter, cheeses, mayonnaise, green onions and garlic. Blend well. Spread cut side of bread halves with garlic cheese spread.
Bake at 350 degrees 7 minutes, then place under broiler about 3 minutes longer. Cut into slices and serve. Makes 10 to 12 servings.

DEAR MARY ELLEN: We have printed Rosalynn Carter's recipe for chili almost annually since the Carters were in the White House. Here it is again.
ROSALYNN CARTER'S CHILI CON CARNE
1 (1-pound) round steak, cut into bite-size cubes
3 tablespoons oil
1 (4-ounce) can chopped green chiles
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups water
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried crushed oregano
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt or to taste
2 tablespoons chili powder
Brown meat in hot oil in heavy pot or large skillet. Add chiles, tomato paste, onion, water, garlic, cumin, oregano, pepper, sugar, flour, salt and chili powder.
Simmer about 1 hour or until meat is tender and mixture is thickened. Makes 4 servings.

DEAR ALICE: The name has been converted to refrigerator cookies but the recipe is the same.
BASIC REFRIGERATOR COOKIES
2 3/4 cups sifted flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and soda. In bowl cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs individually. Add vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
Shape dough into 1 1/2- to 2-inch rolls. Wrap rolls in foil. Chill at least 3 hours or overnight in refrigerator. Cut into slices 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Bake on ungreased baking sheets at 375 degrees 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen.
