LONG BEACH : MTA Drops Bus Route to Downtown L.A.

February 02, 1995

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, citing low ridership, has canceled a bus route between East Long Beach and downtown Los Angeles.

About 85 people a day traveled the 457 route, which made six daily trips. The best alternative is the Blue Line train, which can be taken from various stations along Long Beach Boulevard, MTA officials said. The Blue Line's $1.10 one-way fare is less expensive than the $2.70 fare on the canceled route.

MTA officials had planned to discontinue the route and two other lines in July, but County Supervisor Deane Dana requested that they be kept open for a six-month study period, said Steve Chesser, MTA spokesman.
